Sustainable Technology
The battery rebate program is undergoing major changes to its rebate structure due to high demand, which will significantly reduce the subsidy for large systems from 1 May 2026. For a 50 kWh system, you should act before 1 May 2026 to secure the higher, non-tiered rebate rate. After that date, the rebate for capacity over 28 kWh drops by 85%. From 1 July 2025, NSW residents can only access the Federal "Cheaper Home Batteries" program, potentially combined with a new state-based Virtual Power Plant (VPP) incentive.
Here is a breakdown of the changes regarding 50 kWh battery rebates:
1. Key Changes (Effective 1 May 2026)
Reduced Value: The rebate amount will decrease every six months starting in 2026. While the rebate still applies to systems up to 100 kWh (with the first 50 kWh of usable capacity eligible for STCs), the subsidy will be heavily reduced for larger systems.
New Tiered System (from May 1, 2026):
0–14 kWh: 100% of the STC rate.
Over 14–28 kWh: 60% of the STC rate.
Over 28–50 kWh: Only 15% of the STC rate.
The NSW Battery Rebate (separate from the Federal program) officially ended on 30 June 2025.

The Siddons SolarPlus was developed by Siddons Energy Systems, a division of Siddons Ramset Ltd. This product later became the Quantum Energy heat pump after the Siddons family bought the business.
